SEK 1,000 for Three Years: Getting the Swedish SSG Entre Contractor Safety Card

Swedish industrial sites require proof of safety training before entry. Over 300 industrial sites and plants across Sweden mandate the SSG safety card. This includes companies like Scania, SSAB, and Nordic Paper. Without this card, workers cannot pass the gate.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority's strategy for 2026-2031 focuses on reducing fatal accidents in construction, transport, and industry. Standardized safety training like SSG Entre supports this strategy. Foreign contractors sending posted workers to Sweden must secure this credential for compliance.

To meet these compliance standards, workers must complete the basic safety course. On May 20, 2026, this course, previously called 'SSG Entre Basic Course', was renamed to 'SSG Entre Contractor Safety'. SSG changed the name to simplify branding for the international market.

On May 20, 2026, the testing structure also changed. The final overall test was replaced with shorter knowledge tests at the end of each chapter. The core safety content remains the same.

The course covers general safety in industrial areas, risk management, and personal protective equipment (PPE). It also covers fire hazards, chemical handling, working at heights, traffic rules, and emergency routines.

The online training is available in 18 (or 19) languages. These include English, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, German, Polish, Czech, Russian, Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Flemish, Mandarin Chinese, Croatian, Slovak, and Lithuanian. Workers can complete the interactive e-learning course in their native language.

Completing this training requires the contracting company to register first. The company must create a free business account on the SSG website under 'Become a client of SSG'.

Foreign corporate customers within the EU must provide their VAT registration number during registration to avoid Swedish VAT. The company must designate an administrator. This administrator manages the SSG online courses and assigns them to employees via the Learning Admin tool.

Once the administrator assigns the course, the employee receives an invitation with a link and a one-time password via email or SMS. Swedish citizens can log in using BankID. The interactive e-learning course takes approximately three hours to complete on a computer, phone, or tablet.

This three-hour course costs approximately SEK 1,000 (or €155) per participant. SSG invoices this fee when the administrator assigns the course.

After the worker passes the course, the administrator must upload a photo of the participant in the SSG portal to order the physical Access card.

The physical Access card is printed and sent by post to the contracting firm's registered address within 2 to 5 days. Employers must plan for this shipping time before workers travel to Sweden.

The SSG Entre Contractor Safety certification is valid for three years. After three years, the course must be purchased and retaken. The physical Access card itself has no expiration date. It remains valid as long as the linked courses are active.

While the basic card remains valid, many industrial sites require an additional facility-specific supplementary course. For example, workers at SSAB facilities must complete a course like 'SSG Entre SSAB Luleå' to learn site-specific risks and rules.

These local supplementary courses are free. They do not require administrator assignment. Participants can find and complete them directly once the basic course is active. Contractors can use the free 'SSG On site' app to check site access requirements, view maps, and access emergency numbers.

At the gate, the Access card is not a legal identity document. Workers must carry a valid passport or national ID card to verify their identity. Industrial plants use the SSG Access service to scan cards at entry points. Anyone who does not meet the course requirements will be denied entry.

To avoid being denied entry, employers must manage these onboarding details carefully. Ensuring posted workers have active SSG Entre Contractor Safety credentials, completed site-specific modules, and valid national identification prevents delays. Registering early and tracking compliance via the SSG portal ensures teams are ready to work safely on day one.
